Burts Bees Lip Shimmer Review.

Hello again... To start off my holiday haul reviews I will be reviewing my Burts Bees Lip Shimmers. These are a tinted lip balm with varying amounts of shimmer. I bought the shades Plum, Cherry, Peony and Caramel.

I love these, I first discovered these a couple of years ago when I bought the Rhubarb shade and have been meaning to get some more shades since.

I have done lip swatches of the shades and will describe and review them individually.
I bought all of these in Walmart for $4.99 each. About £3.50.

Burts Bees Lip Balm - this one is just a clear lip balm. It's very moisturising and I love the cooling peppermint tingle. I find this to be pleasent on the lips with no strong scent or taste (which I prefer). I do find that this formula is not very melty so I do need to swipe it a couple of times to get a good application.

Burts Bees Lip Shimmer - as with the lip balm these are moisturizing and have that peppermint tingle. These are softer than the balm and apply more smoothly. All the shades are highly pigmented and can be applied lightly for a hint of colour or more heavily for an almost lipstick like intensity.

Caramel - this is a mid toned shade with a bronze shimmer. This shade can easily be applied lightly or heavily for either a hint of colour or an intense shimmer. This shade is one of the more shimmery ones and can sometimes look a bit frosty. I don't usually like this but the shimmer doesn't sink into the lines and cracks in my lips so the shimmer actually looks good. Great summer shade.

Peony - this shade in terms of formula and shimmer is almost identical to Caramel. The only difference is the shade itself. Peony is more cool toned and leans towards a pinky mauve - almost a natural lip shade.

Cherry - my favourite of the bunch. A bright red that is amazingly wearable. This has a low shimmer and it is almost a MLBB shade. Like the two above is can be applied lightly or heavily and the finish is always smooth and even. Will definately be stocking up on this shade next year.

Plum - I really like this shade but application can be tricky. With this one you can't just swipe it over your lips and go. I find that if applied too lightly this can look patchy and uneven. The shade is a dark plum shade with medium shimmer. I think the shimmer is self coloured (not silver or gold) as this shade does not give a frosty finish like Caramel and Peony do. This shade is dark and intense and as its a balm it does not have the lasting power of a lipstick. I would probably not repurchase this as although the colour us nice the formula is not good for a dark shade and I buy a tinted balm to be able to swipe on the go which this color does not lend itself to.

And of course - the required arm swatch.... (left to right - caramel, peony, cherry, plum)

Overall these are definately worth checking out if you like to add a quick hint of colour to your lips that will also moisturise them.

I give them a 4/5.
The point I have taken off is for heavy handed shimmer (frostyness) in some shades and patchy Plum application.

All products unless otherwise mentioned were purchased by me.

Thanks for reading!

  1. Just what I was looking for! I want to try them, the common lipsticks dry out my lips :( but burt's bees is very gentle with their formulas. Palladio also has tinted lip balms at just $4.00. Your blog name is so original by the way :) like it!!
